Schtumm.... Presents: The Rail Abandon

Isaac Birituro & The Rail Abandon https://therailabandon.bandcamp.com/ The Rail Abandon is the musical (dis)guise of Sonny Johns, Grammy, MOBO and Mercury nominated producer, engineer, musician. Grounded in the 1960s folk revival of John Martyn, Nick Drake and Fairport Convention, The Rail Abandon’s “Afrolktronica” incorporates influences of electronic music as well as the sound of West Africa – inspired by the musicians Sonny has worked with, including Ali Farke Toure, Fatoumata Diawara, Orchestra Baobab and Tony Allen. In 2016 Sonny went to Ghana and met master xylophone player Isaac Birituro. After an instant music connection, they spent 3 days in a church making the basis of the album Kalba. Sonny then called upon musician friends, such as Polar Bear’s Seb Rochford, Leafcutter John and Mark Lockheart as well as Laura Jurd, Elliot Galvin and Samantha Whates, to produce “one of the most exciting things I've worked on in the 20 years of the label,” – Dom Servini, Wah Wah 45s. The album is a collaboration between Ghanaian and UK songwriters, recorded by 28 musicians from around the world, a mixture of traditional Ghanaian xylophone music, British folk, Afrobeat, Highlife, electronica and a whole load more. Incorporating new members, Trombonist Raph Clarkson (www.raphclarkson.com) horn arranger on the album, and drummer Yuval Wetzler (www.yuvalwetzler.com), vocalist Yolanda Eyama and master balaphone player Moussa Dembele, The Rail Abandon will be touring the music from Kalba as a five-piece (Vocals/Percussion, Xylophone, Guitar/Samplers, Trombone/Keys, Drums/Drum Machines) recreating the sound of 28 musicians through their technical and musical wizardry. Schtumm.... Presents Azhaar Global Wave

Schtumm.... Presents New Music www.schtumm.co.uk www.thequeensheadbox.co.uk Azhaar Saffar is an Iraqi Welsh violinist / singer-songwriter. She studied classical music at the prestigious R.N.C.M, but preferred listening to Miles and Stefan Grapelli. She made her reputation fronting internationally acclaimed Brazilian jazz group Sirius B who sold most of their albums in Japan! Her musical life has been varied and colourful. She has played for Egyptian princes and with Nicaraguan street bands. She has jammed with the minister for culture in Costa Rica, taught violin in remote fishing villages, and performed with the Bribri tribe! But she retains strong credentials with appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, London’s 606 club where she launched her previous album, regular appearances at Camden’s Jazz café and now Pizza Express Soho! She has worked with some great British Jazz musicians Jason Rebello, Iain Ballamy, flautist Gareth Lockrane, who guests on the new album and DJ/’congeiro’ Snowboy who produced the title track. The new album ‘Original Love’ is having a phenomenal reaction, and already receiving major radio play in the UK and worldwide! Azhaar’s compositions are very much inspired by her travels. Born in North Wales, she has lived in 4 different continents, and more recently emerged from the jungles and oceans of Latin America with the songs for her new album! Not surprisingly this nomadic, unorthodox, multi-faceted, artist has called her new project Global Wave. She is joined by a world class international line-up on this new journey Global Wave’s music re-maps the straight lines of our boundaries and perceptions in a vibrant, irreverent fusion of world rhythms, funk and jazz enhanced by Azhaar’s glorious jazz violin! We are taken on a musical voyage with lyrics, written on the ‘songlines’” Throw in some ‘pura vida’ and you have ‘Original Love’ (Album release date May 4th distributed by Soul street Records) Website: www.azhaarsaffar.com Twitter: @AzhaarSaffar https://www.twitter.com/AzhaarSaffar Facebook: @Azhaar.Music/ https://www.facebook.com/Azhaar.Music/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/azhaar7062/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/72tWI89zCfr0NZQxDnVhmY https://azhaarandglobalwave.bandcamp.com/
