About the event

Benita Johnson

Benita Johnson is an unsigned singer-songwriter and community musician. An experienced performer, she knows how to fill a stage and has a wide-ranging original repertoire. She has supported the likes of Hugh Cornwell (The Stranglers), Boo Hewerdine and Patrick Duff (Strangelove) and performed on stages at large and small festivals, pubs, restaurants and theatres across England and beyond. Originally based in Bristol and Stroud, she now lives and works in Sussex.

“I know we have a lot of home-grown female singers who are very underrated but Benita is quite simply the possessor of one of the best voices to come out of the U.K. In many a year. . it’s not folk and it’s not rock or pop, it’s Benita Johnson doing her thing and it’s beautiful. . . simply breathtaking. . .” (Malcolm Carter, PennyBlackMusic.co.uk)

“Grandiose, poetic and almost spiritual” (Alfie Kingston, Sound Music Reviews)

“Her song-writing is top-quality stuff, and it's music that you just gotta hear for yourself. . . I'd be surprised if you're not convinced you're in the presence of an unsung genius”. David Kidman December 2010, Netrhythms Reviews

“Gorgeous voice, wonderful melodies; folk with a soulful, sassy heart” (Subba-Cultcha.com)

Jody Prewett

Former lead singer and guitarist of the much loved band Trophy Wife, Jody was also a member of the equally popular Oxford based bands Jonquil and TTNG, each of whom achieved widespread international acclaim. After releasing the hugely popular single 'Microlite' on Moshi Moshi and extensively touring alongside artists such as Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, The Duke Spirit and even opening for a certain Ed Sheeran in Paris, Jody took some time away from the music industry. He now produces his own distinctive brand of cinematic, dreamy folk-pop; inspired by singer songwriters like Simon & Garfunkel, Elliot Smith and John Martyn, imbued with a widescreen Americana. Having recently released an album of guitar instrumentals, Jody is striking out on his own distinctive path as a solo artist. Jody has been performing around Bath, Bristol and London, impressing audiences with his inventive guitar playing, soulful vocals and striking lyrical imagery. Jody is currently working on a new full length album of songs and has been booked to perform at this year's Party In The City Event in Bath.
