Future Schtumm.... Presents

Challenges Facing Live Music

One of the most noticeable impacts has been the reduced size of audiences at concerts and festivals. Various factors contribute to this trend, including:

  • Health Concerns: Continuing concerns about health and safety have made some potential attendees reluctant to participate in large gatherings. The years from 2020 to 2023 affected us all, and in the past, even with a slight cough, you would still make the effort to attend that gig!

  • Economic Factors: With increasing expenses, many fans are becoming more selective about the events they choose to attend. It's no longer just a cheap bus ride into town; in fact, there aren't many buses anymore, and the days of spending a few pounds at the door and for a pint are long gone. I used to buy a pint with my pocket money as a teen, but now I feel the need to budget for every step outside the front door!

  • Shifting Habits: The convenience of streaming music from home (and our TikTok attention span) has changed how some people engage with live performances. It's safer to watch and comment behind a screen. A real life music performance can give you both good and bad feels which can actually really freak you out if you're in a constant state of social numbness courtesy of many online 'social' platforms.

We are now at the crossroads between the digital and physical realms. It appears we've spent considerable time creating online communities, and it's now the moment to re-engage with the real world, put our phones down, and reestablish authentic human connections. We are not machines; our minds require rest so our bodies can once again experience life.

For 2026 Schtumm.... Presents is looking to build their audience numbers and create more opportunities for grassroots artists by creating a festival format where once or twice a year we bring these brand new acts together for a day of live sessions for our audiences to experience.

It's going to be all about the music and all about the musicians. A powerhouse of grassroots opportunity. Watch this space and do send us any comments and ideas you may have to support this venture!!! We're hoping this format will help build a larger audience base that will also feed into our Schtumm Xtras and the rest of the live and local music scene!

Our Schtumm.... Xtra's will continue as normal so do contact Dean to book in with him.
